After learning that this year's New York Future of Web Design Conference would land on election day and be situated right next to Times Square, I expected a rather exciting and inspirational atmosphere.
My personal highlights were...
Dan Mall's insightful talk on designing the 'experience layer', something which is particularly close to Mint's heart. His overarching message was to create rich and engaging user experiences rather than purely focusing on the details of markup and design perfection.
Paul Boag's talk on client communication. Although not the most pioneering subject he's a great speaker and has solid advice. At Mint we're keen to get clients involved as early as possible in the design process to create more of a collaborative environment. This is something Paul re-iterates, also noting the added benefit of requiring less time/energy spent 'persuading' clients. He even managed to squeeze in a joke about the Man from Del Monte, strictly for the very limited British audience.
Nicholas Felton also gave a fascinating (and beautifully designed) presentation on his 'annual reports' documenting his year to insane levels of detail. My personal favourite was his chart of every street in New York he's walked down.
Overall it was a well put together event and lineup. Well done to Louise and all at Carsonified.
Here are some photos from the day.
